Geocentric Transit Table for
Saturn-Pluto 2000-2020For an explanation of transit tables see
Outer Planet Geocentric Transit TablesIf we said simply that Saturn and Pluto are in opposition when their separation is within 10° of 180° then we could say that during the period June 2000 through April 2004 they are in opposition three times: 2000-08-13 to 2000-10-02, 2001-05-24 to 2002-08-02, and 2002-11-29 to 2003-05-26. But if we consider in greater detail the exactness of the opposition between these two planets then the situation is considerably more complicated than this because of their retrograde motions. This is illustrated by the following, obtained from the dates in the table below.
The first line tells us that on 2000-06-24 Saturn and Pluto came within 180° plus or minus 15° of each other, thereby beginning a 15°-opposition. The exactness of the opposition becomes 10° on 2000-08-13 and reaches a minimum of 9°17' on 2000-09-05. This 15°-opposition ends on 2000-11-22. A 5°-opposition begins on 2001-06-26, becoming exact at 16:17 GMT on 2001-08-05. The opposition then becomes less exact (on 2001-09-11 it is 2°7') but becomes exact again at 04:44 GMT on 2001-11-02. The opposition goes beyond 5° on 2001-12-16 but then returns to within 5° on 2002-04-20, becoming exact again at 02:37 GMT on 2002-05-26. The opposition then goes beyond 5° on 2002-06-27, and beyond 10° on 2002-08-02, but then returns to within 10° on 2002-11-29, reaching a minimum of 2°21' on 2003-03-01. It then goes beyond 5° on 2003-04-18, beyond 10° on 2003-05-26 and beyond 15° on 2003-06-28. The two planets then return briefly to within 15° on 2004-02-13, but this opposition only reaches 14°6' (on 2004-03-12) before ceasing entirely on 2004-04-08.
Saturn and Pluto then move into trine aspect (from September 2005 to September 2008); the exactness of this trine aspect exhibits less complication than for the opposition aspect considered in the preceding paragraph. They form an exact trine just once, on 2007-08-06, but they come within 1° of an exact trine once before, on 2006-11-18, and once after, on 2008-04-27.
Saturn and Pluto form an exact square three times from November 2009 to August 2010 (see the table below for the dates), and they form an exact sextile three times from December 2012 to September 2013. The next exact (major) aspect occurs when they become exactly conjunct in January 2020.
